As a die-hard Stephen King fan (I've read The Shining enough times to start seeing hedge animals move in my sleep), I dove into The Colorado Kid with high hopes. King, as always, delivered on the writing style: it’s rich, sharp, and unmistakably his. But here's the twist—I couldn't connect with the story at all! 🙃
The plot centers around a small-town mystery, where two elderly newspapermen tell a young intern about an unsolved case that’s puzzled their tiny coastal town for years. Sounds promising, right? Unfortunately, the story just... drifts. I kept waiting for that classic King tension, for a twist, a shock, something to get me fully invested. But instead, the book let me dangle, and the resolution (or lack thereof) felt like opening a beautifully wrapped gift only to find socks!
All that said, sometimes it’s fun to see the King write something this subtle and simple, just not my cup of tea this time around.
